HEYBURN BENNETT NEWS AND VIEWSJUNE 2022

Hi there and welcome to the first of what we hope will be a monthly update on events, not only in the world of accounting and tax, but also on life in general.

During Covid we endeavoured to e-mail our clients regularly with news and links to help them obtain the maximum financial help on offer from the government. The feedback we received was fantastic and together we have pulled through the crisis and are moving on to hopefully bigger and better things. We have nothing but admiration for the flexibility and adaptability you have all showed over the last 2 years.

One consequence of the lockdowns that particularly concerned us was the anxiety caused by the incessant media hysteria which sadly continues today. The scaremongering and negativity has affected us all, both directly from the dramatic news bulletins to subliminally from the never-ending messages on radio advertisements. We, the public should be respected and treated as adults and sadly this appears not to have been the case.

It is therefore disturbing that more people than ever before are suffering from mental health issues.

It’s good to talk and more important than ever. It’s become more apparent to us that mental health and anxiety is a real problem. The prehistoric solution of “don’t be stupid” or “just get on with it” is thankfully consigned to the bin. Encouraging to us is that upon talking to some of the younger generation, they are more open and transparent about mental health issues.

There are great free resources out there. For example, if you live in Surrey, we have first hand experience of the fantastic help on anxiety given by the NHS and Surrey County Council. If you are suffering, we encourage you to explore this option. The link is here:

At the time of writing, the Prime Minister has won his confidence vote. We all have our different views on this and politics as a whole, and healthy debate is part of our democracy and should be encouraged. However, it is now hoped that the in-fighting will cease, even though the media will continue to be divisive, and that plans can be formulated moving forward to solve the current cost of living crisis.

Should any developments occur which are relevant to you as businesses and/or taxpayers, we will elaborate in future updates. The information on the last Budget in November 2021 is here:

In the meantime, stay safe and positive (on outlook not Covid!).

Regards,

Mark, Dave and the team.
